DECLARATION ON GUINEA.

The Heads of State expressed their deep concern in the face of the grave institutional crisis that is shaking Guinea, jeopardizing the security of civil populations and threatening regional stability.

They condemned the violence and were moved by the large number of innocent victims. They were concerned about the deterioration of the security situation and called upon those responsible for maintaining law and order to show restraint and a spirit of responsibility.

They called upon Guinean authorities to honour their commitments under the agreement signed on 27 January 2007 with trade unions so as to safeguard the peace and security of all Guineans while respecting democratic principles.

They supported the efforts of ECOWAS and the African Union to find a solution to the crisis.
