Letter of condolence from the President of the Republic to the President of Egypt in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Dahab.

Letter of condolence from M. Jacques CHIRAC, President of the Republic, to Mr Hosni MUBARAK, President of Egypt, in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Dahab.

Paris, 25 April 2006

President Mubarak, [handwritten:] Very dear friend,

The terrorist attack which has just brought mourning and grief to the town of Dahab arouses feelings of horror and outrage. I utterly condemn it.

In these very painful circumstances for your country, my thoughts go to the unfortunate, innocent victims who have suffered a tragic fate, and to their families who have been dealt such a cruel blow.

On this painful day for all your fellow citizens, I extend to the Egyptian people and to you, personally and on France's behalf, my very sincere condolences and solidarity in the ordeal. France is, of course, ready to provide any support you might deem necessary for the rescue operations.

The terrorist act of which Egypt has been the victim affects every country which cherishes peace and stability. For this reason, it concerns us all and calls for unwavering firmness.

(complimentary close, with handwritten addition)./.
