23rd Conference of Heads of State and Government of Africa and France


Communiqué on Trade

The Heads of State and of Government of Africa and France, gathered at Bamako on December 3 and 4, 2005, have reaffirmed their commitment to the success of the Doha round of trade negotiations and underlined the place development should have in this round.

To this end, they have called for the adoption of the following measures at the Ministerial Conference in Hong Kong:

  • -for developing countries, responses to preference erosion and support to step up African trade through special and differential treatment,
  • -for the least developed countries, duty- and quota-free access for all their products,
  • and more specifically,
  • -treatment to benefit the African cotton sector,
  • -African populations' access to essential drugs, especially for treating major pandemics.
