Anti-Semitic attacks in France: Communiqué issued by the Presidency (Paris, April 1, 2002)

(...) In the face of the rash of anti-Semitic attacks directed against the security and dignity of persons, property and symbols of France's Jewish community, the President of the Republic reiterates his very firm condemnation of these intolerable acts.

He has called on the government to take measures to step up the protection of places of worship in particular, and to employ all necessary means to seek out and severely punish those responsible for these acts of violence.

The President of the Republic solemnly appeals to all our fellow countrymen more than ever to uphold the values of our Republic, the values of dialogue, respect for others and tolerance.
