This Wednesday, at 12 noon at the US Embassy, President Jacques Chirac will take part in a ceremony commemorating the attacks of 11 September last year.

At 7.30 p.m. in the American Church, Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin will attend a service paying tribute to the victims of the attacks.

A ceremony of remembrance will also take place around the tree planted in the Jardin du Luxembourg in January 2002 by M. Christian Poncelet, President of the Senate, and Mme Bernadette Chirac. The French Senate will honour the memory of the victims of the attacks in Washington and New York. The ceremony will be attended by several leading French and American figures, including the US Ambassador, Mr Edward H. Leach. Honours will be rendered jointly by detachments of the Garde républicaine and US Marine Corps.

Paris City Hall will be remembering the victims of the attacks on the twin towers of the World Trade Center. On the nights of 10 and 11 September, from 10 p.m. to 5.30 a.m., two beams of white light will be projected from its two courtyards to illuminate the Paris sky, so that the whole Paris community will pay tribute to the American people and express their solidarity and commitment to shared values.
