Tapestry Lounge
This is a reception room leading into the State rooms overlooking the
garden. This is where the President's guests wait on the occasion of State dinners, before being presented in the Salon Murat. Ministers pass through here every Wednesday morning for the
Cabinet meeting. The salon may also be used as a waiting room for visitors before being given audience in one of the ground floor reception rooms.
This salon has kept the name given to it under the Third
Republic, when Félix Faure, concerned to enhance the splendour of the Elysée's reception rooms, hung three tapestries relating the story of the Roman general Scipio. The salon was
completely refurbished in 1991 in order to show off these admirable tapestries to their best advantage.
Under the prime contracting control of Catherine Cole, Gilles Dupuis covered the woodwork with a hot patina based on bronze serving as a setting for the XVIIth and XVIIIth tapestries.

The Savonnerie stitch rug by Aubusson has been conserved preserved in the salon in a stitch dating back to the Restauration period used previously, just like the Restauration chandelier with 36 lights of gilded bronze and Bohemian crystal glass.
